So much is brewing at Bold Moves Studio! I’m so excited about a new direction I am taking with my daughter as a partner. I have been searching high and low for the perfect business project for us to work together for a couple of years and am so happy to finally land on an idea that is so Lina. If you know Lina you will see her in every aspect.

What is it we are doing? We have been in development phase for a while now and are finally receiving our ‘real’ materials, so here comes… Lina’s Lemonade Stand! Sassy and Sweet Skin Care. Here is our adorable logo that is a self portrait Lina drew 2 years ago.

Products and gift sets will become available the end of January, including sugar scrubs and lip balms (hand salve and face masks coming for spring) trust me they will be worth the wait! I’d like to share the story of our little company with you:

My daughter Lina is the inspiration for Lina’s Lemonade Stand, a line of natural skin care products that are great for sensitive skin. Lina has Autism, ADHD, and intellectual challenges. She is a very friendly person who spreads joy to all she comes in contact with. She is 29 and lives with her Mom, Dad, and her big orange tabby cat named Pumpkin. As a youngster Lina had a lemonade stand that was great fun, which is where we came up with the name for this special business. She helps me, her Mom, remember every day what truly is important in life.

Its hard for people like Lina to find and maintain employment. In the US about 80% of individuals with a disability are unemployed. (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2017) Of the 17.9% of individuals who are employed, many will lose their job within the first year. This is a global problem across many other countries with similar statistics. These individuals have real skills and abilities, but many times businesses, despite their hardest efforts, don’t know how to incorporate an individual with a disability into their business plan.

For this reason I decided to create a company where Lina can be employed. Lina loves fun skin care products, but most of her life the nice smelling fancy products she would desire or receive as gifts would cause her sensitive skin all kinds of distress. Creating natural skin care products allows Lina to enjoy them, as well as help make them! She can help with packaging and shipping items as well as go along to stock them in retail locations. Its exciting to find a way to provide purposeful and enjoyable employment for Lina! When our business grows it would be wonderful to be able to hire other individuals like Lina.

Lina participates in equine therapy at the North Carolina Therapeutic Riding Center (NCTRC) in Mebane NC. NCTRC is special to Lina and our family because of all the benefits she receives from equine therapy. NCTRC has been empowering children and adults with physical, mental, emotional and social challenges to create more active, healthy and fulfilling lives through equine assisted activities and therapies for 40 years. Lina loves horses as much as she loves her cat, Pumpkin (which is a whole lot!), thats why Lina’s Lemonade Stand will be donating 5% of profits to NCTRC.

Give back to the world at least what you’ve received.” Albert Einstein
